Is Fear Stopping You?

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
― Anaïs Nin

For most of my life, I have been a classic “people pleaser.”

I really wanted people to like me and not judge me.

My “need to please” has always prevented me from taking risks.

Even though I thought I would love being a life coach more than 15 years ago, I dismissed the thought because I was fearful of the judgment of others, and I had many other fears as to why it couldn’t be possible.

Sad.

Finally, after lots of help and work, my “disease to please” is at least in remission.

Stepping out as a “life coach” has been a big internal “risk” for me, as I have always valued my privacy, and I don’t like being judged. When I worked as a lawyer, I would cringe at the thought of getting publicity for any of my legal work. As a life coach, I have a completely different view of this.

I know that the more I share of myself, the more effective I am as a coach.

While it still may hurt me sometimes if someone rejects me, I am able to, in a quicker way, not let it bother me.

If I am being kind and honest towards that person, it truly doesn’t matter whether they approve of me or not.

More importantly, I am allowing myself to be visible as a life coach simply because I love this work, and I believe it makes a difference to those who are willing to do the work.

Are You Letting Fear Stop You?

As I tell my kids, there will always be people who don’t like you, no matter what you do and no matter how hard you try. Usually, it has nothing to do with you.

When I freeze because of fear, I remind myself that there are no guarantees: My healthy brother died at age 51, my marathon running mother died around age 60, and I have had my own health scares.

Life is TOO SHORT to not do what you love.

It’s OK to Have Fear…Just Don’t Let It Run Your Life

Is there any place in your life where you are playing it “safe,” because you are afraid? Is it the fear of judgments of others, failure or of the unknown?

Is this fear stopping you from doing what you would you love in your life?

The first step is just becoming aware that you are afraid, and it is OK. It is normal.

Even if you are afraid, it is possible to take small steps to start creating what you would LOVE in your life.

Fear only has as much power as you give it.
